My Microsoft LieChat ZX-6000 mike doesn't work

I've been recording several "stories" with this wireless microphone and all of a sudden even though the unit is turned on and charged, it does not work and no sound can be recorded. I have checked my connections - all tight. One the right side "control" under recording, the option that was there for this device is now gone and the only option is "Realtec". I've tried to resolve this by going back into the Control Panel but there are no options for it to be selected. I've tried all other options and none will allow recording. Also I have noticed that when I want to play back my file I have to derned near be a magician to get the sound to play over my speakers instead of my earpiece even though I've selected the Realtec playback option. What gives, I'm spending far more time than I have on this issue.
